Text Lists

This video guides you through creating Text Lists in DocGen. Below the video you will find an article on "Secondary Value", a field in Text List that makes it possible to add text in a text list that is then interchangeable when you generate the document.

Secondary Value

Using  the field "Secondary Value" has a very useful function and makes DocGen even more flexible. When creating text lists, you can add text with square brackets that need to be interchangeable from document to document

Overall example of using Secondary Value field

1. Create merge field

In the original word document, simply create the merge field as usual:

2. Create text list containing square brackets with text

Add text where you embed the text you would like to be interchangeable

NB! The square bracket fields can only contain ordinary letters. If special characters are added the field will no longer be interchangeable.

3. Choose text list when creating DocGen document

As per usual, choose the text list when assigning the merge field

4. Generate document

When generating the document, you will now see that when choosing text value that contains square brackets, this results in the content being shown in the field "Secondary Value".

You can now overwrite the content.

5. Secondary Value is merged into text in text list

When you have generated the document (or previewed), you will now see that the text from "Secondary Value" is merged into the text:

Example: Quarterly or Annual bonus?

In this example, the contract contains a field wherein the choice between quarterly bonus or yearly bonus should be interchangeable.

1. Create merge field

First, we create the merge field but being the DocGen expert you are, you already know how to do that - so we'll skip the walkthrough ;)

2. Add the interchangeable text in square brackets

Create the text list, embedding "quarterly or yearly" in square brackets:

3. Choose text list when creating DocGen document
Being the DocGen expert you are after having watched the above video,  you already know how to do that - so we'll skip the walkthrough ;)

4. Generate document
When generating the document, you will now see that when choosing text value that contains square brackets, this results in the content being shown in the field "Secondary Value".

You can now overwrite the content.

5. Secondary Value is merged into text in text list

When you have generated the document (or previewed), you will now see that the text from "Secondary Value" is merged into the text. In this case, this results in the text "quarterly" being merged into the long text list-text on bonus:
